Abstract
A 16-year-old girl with type 1 diabetes developed painful peripheral neuropathy within 1 month and proliferative retinopathy within 1 year despite excellent glycemic control. We speculate on potential mechanisms that may have contributed to the rapid development of diabetes mellitus-related complications.
