Arthroscopic Bankart procedure by suture technique: indications, technique, and results.

Abstract

The arthroscopic Bankart procedure by suture technique was performed in 31 patients (1984-1987). In 22 of the cases, the minimum follow-up was 2 years. Fourteen patients had sustained a primary traumatic complete dislocation resulting in unidirectional instability, and eight patients experienced recurrent subluxation. Clinical examination demonstrated positive labrum pathology in all cases, which was proven in five patients by contrast computed tomography scan. None of the 22 patients experienced intraoperative complications or infection. A slight loss of abduction was found in two patients, and a minimal loss of external rotation was found in five patients, but there was no recurrence of complete dislocation of subluxation.
