Abstract
Infants born prematurely require special surveillance and treatment in their first months and years of life. For many family physicians, the prospect of providing ongoing care for these infants seems overwhelming and difficult. Familiarity with the infant's hospital course and an understanding of basic principles of infant neurodevelopment, growth and health maintenance help family physicians provide skilled, thorough and capable care to high-risk newborns.
