Silent uterine rupture, an unusual cause of anhydramnios.

Abstract

Anhydramnios is a rather common ultrasound finding, usually caused by ruptured membranes, placental dysfunction, or impaired fetal renal function. We present a case of anhydramnios, resulting from the perforation of a fetal leg through the uterine wall. Neonatal death occurred caused by severe lung hypoplasia. The absence of clinical symptoms strongly suggests a preexisting weak spot in the uterine wall, presumably resulting from an unrecognized perforation at a previous curettage procedure.
