Abstract
We conducted this study to determine the incidence of infection in cochlear implant surgery after using perioperative antibiotics. Study design was a retrospective case series. There was a retrospective chart review of 95 patients (81 adults, 14 children) undergoing 98 cochlear implants. The incidence of infection following cochlear implant surgery was 1% with the use of perioperative antibiotics. Perioperative antibiotics, usually administered as a single dose, are sufficient for the prevention of major wound infection after cochlear implant surgery.
