Abstract
Chronic pain is a well-known adverse effect of surgery, but the risk of chronic pain after gynaecological surgery is less established. This review summarizes studies on chronic pain following hysterectomy. The underlying mechanisms and risk factors for the development of chronic post-hysterectomy pain are discussed. Chronic pain is reported by 5-32% of women after hysterectomy. A guideline is proposed for future prospective studies.
