Malpractice stress.

Abstract

One of the greatest drains on the emotional capital of orthopedists in this country is the stress incurred from litigation. The malpractice crisis is by no means over. Although states such as Texas have enacted true meaningful reform, all orthopedic surgeons must face the threat of a malpractice suit, even when no wrongdoing occurred. Having practiced in Philadelphia for nearly 20 years, where lawsuits are levied in almost whimsical fashion, I have unfortunately garnered much experience in this realm and would like to share some suggestions that may make the stressors of litigation more bearable. I further mention steps that I undertook to aid my recovery from the throes of a malpractice-induced depression.
