Abstract
There are numerous questions regarding the benefits of hypertension treatment on coronary heart disease mortality and controversies regarding the most appropriate choice of initial antihypetensive monotherapy. In this article, data are reviewed to clarify some of these controversies and present six conclusions to apply to hypertension therapy.
