Abstract
Rhinoplasty is a complex surgical procedure with a steep learning curve and a small margin for error. The authors present a hands-on, anatomically correct, silicone training model designed specifically for learning the technical aspects of rhinoplasty. Computed tomographic data were acquired and used to create a plaster mold. Silicone was cast into this mold to create an operable, realistic, three-dimensional silicone model. The prototype created an anatomically accurate rhinoplasty training model. The silicone materials simulate the properties and behavior of the anatomical structures of the nose. A realistic three-dimensional silicone nasal model has the potential to be used as a hands-on training module for learning rhinoplasty and assessing surgical competency.
