Abstract
This article will take a big-picture view of the issues of utilization, cost, value, quality, innovation, self-referral, specialization, commoditization, competition, and corporatization and suggest how they are closely interrelated. These issues may have a major effect on the practice of radiology. It may be both presumptuous and platitudinous to suggest that our profession currently faces some of the greatest challenges in its history.
