Subextensor digitorum brevis abscess after blunt trauma.

Abstract

It is unusual for an abscess to form after direct blunt trauma without a penetrating injury. There are several reports of submuscular or intramuscular abscess formation after blunt trauma; however, none has been reported in the foot. We present an interesting case of a patient who presented after a fairly benign, low energy injury to the foot. The patient was found to have a submuscular abscess that was successfully managed with a surgical incision and drainage.
