Abstract
Metformin, developed from an ancient herbal remedy, remains the front-line drug for treatment of type 2 diabetes. Several targets to account for its therapeutic effects have been proposed, but a recent paper suggests a novel mechanism in which it antagonizes the cyclic AMP-dependent effects of glucagon on hepatic glucose production.
