Abstract
The "how to" of surgical correction of acetabular dysplasia has been well described. However, choosing the hip that is suitable for surgery can often be the biggest challenge. What we and our patients want to know is whether their hip is a good candidate for a joint-preserving surgery and will that surgery yield a long-lasting result. The problem of hip dysplasia spans the entire age spectrum and the treatments vary highly based upon age and skeletal maturity. This paper is presented as part of the POSNA 1-day hip course from the 2012 meeting and is an effort to present current thinking and the literature regarding patient selection for, and outcomes after surgical correction of acetabular dysplasia in the skeletally mature patient.
