Abstract
Realignment of the knee with high tibial osteotomy combined with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction for a varus-deformed, anterior cruciate ligament-deficient knee yields improved International Knee Documentation Committee functional outcomes at 1 and 5 years, with cartilage restoration shown by second-look arthroscopy at 1 to 2 years. The effect of the cartilage restoration technique is still unknown, and recent literature poses a challenge to its need when realignment surgery is performed.
