Editorial Commentary: Should We Stop Asking the Question of Whether Arthroscopic Knee Surgery Is Worth It?

Abstract

The benefit of arthroscopic knee surgery for degenerative knee disease has been questioned. Recent clinical guidelines strongly recommend against its use in most patients with arthritis and that further research is unlikely to change this recommendation. However, we should never stop questioning and further evaluating the research literature, as other interpretations of data may be equally relevant and further analysis may shed new light on previous findings, particularly with regard to patients who respond poorly to nonoperative treatment.
