Abstract
Respiration exerts a mechanical strain on the lungs, which has an unclear effect on epithelial cell fate. Now in Cell, Shiraishi et al.<sup>1</sup> reveal the crucial role of mechanotransduction in maintaining lung epithelial cell fate, representing a significant milestone in understanding how mechanical factors regulate differentiation.
