Abstract

Contingency management procedures that incentivize drug abstinence have been remarkably effective in promoting drug abstinence; however, as with other chronic health problems, treatment effects dissipate when interventions are removed. Researchers and policymakers should consider using contingency management as a long-term maintenance procedure to retain treatment effects and prevent relapse indefinitely.
