Abstract
Dolichol is a lipid that is involved in protein glycosylation, a process that is essential for all eukaryotic life. In this issue of Cell, Wilson and coworkers<sup>1</sup> report how a rare human genetic disorder led to the discovery of dolichol biosynthesis.
