Abstract
Disaggregation of research data promotes transparency and is critical to identifying gaps in current knowledge and directing future research. Disaggregation of sex in orthopaedic research is essential but rare. As an example, anterior shoulder instability is affected by sex-based differences in anatomy that impact structural and clinical outcomes, yet fewer than 5% of studies disaggregate by sex. Adherence to the Sex and Gender Equity in Research guidelines is needed to improve research and promote equity.
