Surgical Correction of the Hallux Valgus is Completed. What are the Next Steps?

Abstract

Reduced weight-bearing after hallux valgus surgery in pedobarography is frequently reported. If active post OP physiotherapy was done, the function of the first ray and the hallux could be trained and pedobarographic test showed a regain of active push off power in the area of the great toe after surgical joint preserving realignment procedures already 6 weeks post OP. This therapy was applied in combination with the use of a post OP shoe with biomechanical design adapted to the need of post OP reduction of maximum load and range of motion. The study reviews the literature and rehabilitation protocols.
