An island of mercy: An American Veteran's view from Ukraine.

Abstract

In this narrative, a former American military neurosurgeon describes his collaboration with colleagues in eastern Ukraine. He started by collecting and shipping medical supplies and sharing information through virtual conferences and text messages, which culminated in his first in-person visit. He provides vignettes about the many struggles and triumphs of the hospital staff. He also reflects upon the state of American military preparedness for dealing with the unprecedented type of modern warfare taking place in Ukraine.
