Venous Thromboembolism in Unusual Locations.

Abstract

The risk factors and clinical presentation of splanchnic vein, cerebral vein, and renal vein thrombosis are distinct from those for extremity thrombosis. Because of the rarity of these conditions and a paucity of data guiding appropriate management, providers frequently struggle to manage thromboses at unusual sites. In this article, the authors review the site-specific risk factors, clinical presentation, diagnostic techniques, and literature on anticoagulant and procedural management of thrombosis at unusual sites to guide providers.
