Trigeminal Schwannoma Resection: A Systematic Review Functional Outcomes with Endoscopic and Microscopic Approaches.

Abstract

Trigeminal schwannomas are uncommon, benign neoplasms originating from the trigeminal nerve and frequently necessitate surgical management to alleviate symptoms and preserve neurological function. This systematic review aims to evaluate and compare the functional outcomes and adverse events of endoscopic versus microscopic surgical resection techniques. A comprehensive search was conducted using PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Scopus to identify studies meeting the inclusion criteria. Data on patient demographics, tumor characteristics, surgical outcomes, and postoperative complications were extracted and analyzed. Results indicate varying functional outcomes with each approach, highlighting the differences in sensory deficits, cranial nerve function preservation, and recurrence rates. These findings provide valuable insights for neurosurgeons to select optimal surgical strategies for trigeminal schwannoma management.
