Repair With Graft Augmentation of Chronic, Retracted Pectoralis Major Tendon Tear With Achilles Tendon Allograft.

Abstract

A pectoralis major tendon tear is a rare but serious injury that commonly results in cosmetic deformity as well as pain and functional weakness. Although acute pectoralis major tendon tears often can be surgically managed with primary repair techniques, chronic, retracted tears typically require augmentation with an allograft or autograft. Several methods have been proposed to address this pathology; however, a gold standard has yet to be defined. In this Technical Note, the authors describe repair with graft augmentation of a chronic, retracted pectoralis major tendon tear with Achilles tendon allograft. Our surgical technique aims to restore the inferior border of the axillary fold and contour of the chest wall while offering superior stability and durability.
