Abstract
Vanderbilt University Medical Center leaders conceived of and implemented a multiyear journey to transform health care through fundamental shifts in the governance and operation of organizational processes, quality improvement and research, and medical education and training. Their framework for reinventing academic medicine can be used by other health care delivery organizations committed to system change.
