Abstract

Health policy and accreditation are 2 means to promote equity and quality in the US health care system., The federal government as the major payor and regulator is the most influential force over health policy though state governments and other organizations impact quality as well. Accreditation is another key mechanism to regulate quality and is done so through federal, state, and private organization coordination for hospitals that participate in Medicare. The regulatory reporting and quality burden facing hospitals is significant and more research is needed to ensure metrics are achieving improvement in health outcomes.
