Abstract
Pandemics shape history and leave lasting impacts on society and healthcare practices. The 2024 Rovenstine lecture debriefs the experience of anesthesiologists and leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and reflects on emergency preparedness, crisis management, scientific advances, lessons from the crisis response, posttraumatic stress and burnout, and the importance of leadership in a crisis.
