Medial Quadriceps Tendon Femoral Ligament Reconstruction for Recurrent Patellar Instability in Skeletal Immature Patients Using Anterior Tibialis Tendon Allograft.

Abstract

Patellofemoral instability is a common source of pain and dysfunction in the immature knee. When conservative treatments are ineffective, surgical intervention to reconstruct the medial patellofemoral ligament complex may be required to restore function and prevent recurrent dislocations and subluxations of the patella. In this context, we present our medial quadriceps tendon femoral ligament reconstruction technique using a tibialis anterior tendon allograft with soft-tissue fixation in the quadriceps and physeal-sparing interference fixation in the femur. This procedure is intended for patients with recurrent lateral patella dislocations, both in those with open and closed physes, as well as for revision cases. Our technique offers advantages, including a more anatomically accurate reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral complex while avoiding patella perforation and sparing the growth plate.
