Abstract
Understanding the experiences of individuals using the health system is crucial to be able to explain future treatments and address concerns. This is especially true after a life-threatening event. True informed consent is impossible without a good degree of empathy with patients. We share the first-person experience of a severe intraoperative allergic reaction and reflect on the role of anaesthetists and anaesthetic allergy clinic staff in testing and communication regarding future anaesthesia.
