Abstract
Although global oncology efforts are guided by benevolence, prestige, hierarchy, and symbolic authority often shape its practice. These forces fuel counterproductive competition, sustain dependency, and therefore demand reforms that strengthen local capacity for comprehensive, sustainable cancer care.
