The lancet commission on the future of neonatology: a call to enhance interprofessional collaborations.

Abstract

Advances in perinatal research and care have dramatically enhanced the survival of extremely preterm infants yet further advances to treat many morbidities have stalled. Major barriers limiting improvements in the health of sick preterm and term neonates are linked with the limited success in establishing strong pipelines for developing novel therapies and effective clinical management strategies. The Lancet Commission on the Future of Neonatology was launched to better define this urgent problem, to propose a "call for action" and provide a roadmap based on recommendations that will enhance the development of novel drugs and devices to improve outcomes world-wide.
