Abstract
In the article that accompanies this editorial, Hoepnner and colleagues report recurrence patterns from the practice changing ESOPEC trial that demonstrated superior overall survival with perioperative FLOT chemotherapy over neoadjuvant CROSS chemoradiation. Recurrence patterns from ESOPEC further cement FLOT as a highly active systemic therapy, and future work should include development of biomarkers and risk stratification tools to further refine multi-modality, adaptive treatment designs in the curative-intent setting for esophageal junction adenocarcinoma.
