Abstract

To compare the effects of leukocyte platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) and advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) for the regeneration of mental nerve injury in rats, as evaluated by immunohistochemical analysis. Thirty rats were randomly assigned to three groups: control, l-PRF, and A-PRF. The left mental nerves of all rats were used in this study. A Yaşargil aneurysm clip was applied for 60 s to induce a crush injury. In the control group, the injured mental nerve was left to heal spontaneously. In the second group, l-PRF in membrane form was wrapped around the injury site. In the third group, A-PRF in membrane form was applied to the injured mental nerves. Nerve samples taken from the rats were evaluated for immunoreactivity with beta III tubulin and S100 beta primary antibodies. Beta III tubulin immunoreactivity showed a significant difference between the l-PRF, A-PRF, and control groups. Similarly, when S100 beta primary antibody immunoreactivity was analyzed, a significant difference was observed between the control, l-PRF, and A-PRF groups. Both l-PRF and A-PRF demonstrated positive effects on axonal regeneration in the early stages. To further investigate the effects of l-PRF and A-PRF at different stages of nerve regeneration, additional experimental studies are needed.
