Advantages and Disadvantages of the Arthroscopic Ankle Fusion-Is There Any Role for Open Fusion?

Abstract

Arthroscopic ankle fusion has become the preferred method due to its numerous benefits, most notably decreased morbidity and increased efficacy compared to the open technique. This article reviews the advantages of arthroscopic arthrodesis, the optimal surgical technique, and identifies the selected cases where open arthrodesis still plays a role.
