Abstract
Starting with an in depth understanding of the relevant anatomy, the astute clinician will recognize early the signs and symptoms of common abscesses in the head and the neck. When mild, some infections or early abscesses can be managed on an outpatient basis with close follow-up. With more severe infections, inpatient management and surgical therapy are needed. Antibiotic therapy is tailored according to cultures taken intraoperatively.
