Failure of a Patellar Tendon Repair: Treatment with an Inlay Achilles Allograft.

Abstract

Injury to the patellar tendon is most often seen in active, middle-aged, adults and can represent a significant injury. Although patellar tendon tears are common, surgical intervention often yields successful results. However, operative management can fail, and either rerupture or elongation of the repair may occur. Primary repair techniques are well described; however, revision repairs are rare and poorly described in the literature. This report aims to describe a technique for performing patellar tendon reconstruction using an Achilles allograft augmentation in a patient with multiply failed repairs. This approach may offer a reliable solution in complex cases where conventional methods have proven inadequate, potentially reducing the risk of further complications and improving patient outcomes.
