Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is the biggest public health issue, the tide of which continues to inexorably rise. Hemodialysis (HD) is the treatment of choice that can help them to expand their lifespan and can lead to major changes in the quality of life (QOL). A mixed method study using concurrent convergent design (QUAL + QUAN) was conducted at Ambala, India, among 32 patients with CKD undergoing HD. The tools used for the study were "KDQOL-SF™ version 1.3" and a semistructured open-ended interview guide. The QOL of HD patients was more affected in physical component summary (PCS) followed by mental component summary and kidney disease component summary, respectively. A significant relationship was found among the different areas of QOL. QOL of patients with CKD undergoing HD is highly affected in PCS. A change in any area of QOL positively influences the QOL in other area. Physical, psychological, and social changes can affect the QOL of HD patients.
