Abstract
<i>Staphylococcus aureus</i> persists in chronic diabetic wounds by adapting to their unique microenvironmental niche. Reconceptualizing pathogenesis as niche-specific ecological process highlights the need for therapies targeting wound-specific vulnerabilities and interspecies dynamics while leveraging immune components to disrupt pathogen–host adaptation.
