Abstract
The principles of arthrodesis surgery in Müller-Weiss disease (MWD) depend upon stage of the disease, the condition of the navicular itself, and the surrounding joints. This article describes the surgical treatment of advanced stages of MWD. It presents an evidence-based literature review, including several recent articles that purport to guide treatment via both an updated classification system and a treatment algorithm. We discuss our experience in Glasgow of a large series of patients treated at a single institution by a single surgeon entailing an "extended triple arthrodesis" performed after excising the diseased navicular and bone grafting the defect.
