Numeracy in Primary Care: Understanding Research and Statistics.

Abstract

Numeracy is the ability to understand and use numbers and is a key skill that will allow primary care clinicians to implement public health interventions that support patient and population level health. Surveillance, screening, prevention, and stewardship require knowledge of unique metrics and measures. Research studies should be examined for generalizability and clinical versus statistical significance, especially when applied to special populations.
