Lenalidomide for the Treatment of Chronic Oral Mucositis and Soft Tissue Necrosis After Radiation Therapy.

Abstract

Radiation-induced oral mucositis is a complication of head and neck cancer therapy that may persist beyond the expected timelines and become refractory to conventional management, adversely affecting patients' quality of life. Radiation therapy for infiltrative tumors can also result in soft tissue necrosis, which may complicate post-treatment recovery. There are currently no therapies approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for persistent radiation-induced soft tissue injury. Herein, we describe 2 patients with head and neck cancer with recalcitrant radiation therapy-associated oral ulcerations who experienced complete healing and resolution of symptoms with lenalidomide therapy.
