Abstract
This guest editorial highlights the importance of external validity in randomised clinical trials in psychiatry, using patients with borderline personality disorder as an example. We suggest strategies to improve the external validity of trials, including adjusting randomisation procedures and implementing detailed screening logs at the referral stage.
