Compression Neuropathy of the Peroneal Nerve by a Fibular Osteochondroma: A Case Series.

Abstract

Osteochondroma is a common benign bone tumor but rarely presents with neurological deficits. Compression of the common peroneal nerve (CPN) causing foot drop is an uncommon manifestation. We report a case series of three young adults (two males, one female) presenting with foot drop due to fibular osteochondroma, without prior trauma. Clinical examination, radiography, and MRI were used for diagnosis. All patients underwent en bloc intralesional excision with meticulous CPN decompression, followed by standardized rehabilitation. Imaging demonstrated sessile osteochondromas at the fibular head compressing the CPN. Histopathology confirmed benign lesions. All patients achieved complete motor and sensory recovery within three months. Early diagnosis and timely surgical intervention result in excellent neurological recovery and prevent permanent CPN damage.
