Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of presenteeism on the risk of work-related injuries caused by cuts and abrasions in the retail industry. This study was a prospective cohort study conducted from 2018 to 2022 among 4504 employees working in departments handling knives and other cutting tools at a single retail company. The independent variable was presenteeism, measured using the Work Functioning Impairment Scale (WFun), and the dependent variable was the number of "cuts and abrasions" on the job. Incidence rate ratio (IRR) was estimated using multi-Poisson regression analysis. The higher the WFun score, the greater the IRR for work-related cuts and abrasions (trend p=0.024). To prevent work-related accidents involving cuts and abrasions, comprehensive evaluation of workers' health status through presenteeism and advancing health-based countermeasures may be effective.
