Values-Based Healthcare and the Quintuple Aim: Connection, Compassion, Equity, & Stewardship.

Abstract

Transformation from a fee-for-service model to a value-based health care model is essential to achieve the Quintuple Aim of Healthcare, the goal of which is the improvement not only of patient and population outcomes but also clinician wellness in an equitable cost-effective paradigm of human connection. The enhancement of "values-based care" is critical to this transformation. Understanding the influences of population heterogeneity, patient idiosyncrasy and schema, and health expectation is central not only to consistently achieving the Quintuple Aim but to personal and professional satisfaction as well. The system must be centered around compassion, connection, stewardship, and making the right choice the frictionless choice. Life is short; thus, it is important that we work together, stand by the good, and strive to make things better as best as we can.
