Abstract
Pulmonary mucormycosis is a rare fungal infection that often affects the lungs in immunocompromised or diabetic patients. We describe the case of a 65-year-old man presenting with cavitations and cultures positive for Rhizomucor and undergoing right pneumonectomy. Final pathologic examination of the lung lesions revealed keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma with concomitant Mucor infection. The patient was successfully treated with no evidence of disease recurrence at last available follow-up. Here we discuss the case, other unusual presentations of mucormycosis, and current guidelines for treatment.
