External Fixation for the Management of Clubfoot Sequelae in Children and Adolescents.

Abstract

The Ponseti method has become the first line treatment for all cases of clubfoot including both idiopathic and syndromic. Despite the Ponseti methods simplicity and reproducibility, a large population of patients still lack access to optimal initial care and either present late with severe deformity or have had multiple previous surgical interventions. For both cases, Circular External Fixation can be considered for progressive correction. This article covers the indications for each of these external fixation constructs, as well as the different progressive correction techniques.
