Abstract
The aim of this article is to offer a critical look at existing cleft care models and to advocate a move toward cleft care that is more inclusive of patient and family needs. Although conventional cleft care is predominantly clinical, a more holistic and comprehensive perspective toward patients and their caregivers tends to be overlooked. The discussed empowerment-based model furnishes a person-centered approach intended to upgrade the long-term prognosis and well-being of individuals with cleft and their families, as well as address their psychosocial needs.
