As Elder Care Needs Grow, What's Your Organization's Plan?

Abstract

NEJM Catalyst Insights Council members say older patients face two interconnected sets of challenges: at the patient level, declining self-management ability compounded by absence of necessary social support networks; and at the health care delivery system level, insufficient care coordination compounded by lack of clinician time. Survey results are highly congruent worldwide, suggesting that no country has fully realized elder care challenges and potential improvements.
