Abstract
Effective mentorship is vital to engage and develop physician-scientists in the field of infectious diseases (ID). We provide guidance for early career physician-scientist mentees to help them find, develop, and manage a mentor team. Important mentee attributes include being prepared, taking ownership of the mentoring relationship, and using structured tools and self-reflection to facilitate open communication and problem-solving. By incorporating a structured approach, mentees can help drive effective mentoring relationships and position themselves for successful and rewarding careers as ID physician-scientists.
